Jimena de la Frontera is located just outside the national park Alcornocales, surrounded by stunning landscapes that make up Europe’s largest cork oak forest. It’s a 20 minute drive down from Gaucin, so warmer in winter, and closer to the sea in summer. The town sits on the slope of a hill and if you take a walk around, you will see it offers many delights. Some of the ancient buildings not to be missed are the 15th century gothic church Iglesia de la Misericordia, which has been converted into an information centre telling the history of the surrounding national park. Also the Moorish castle built in the 13th century.
